As distant to me as the furthest star in the heavens where you sleep,
My child, my son, my heir,
You were ours, and we loved you.
We lost you without the chance to tell you that,
To hold you, to kiss you, to cherish you
I think of you every day and I wonder
If you would understand that I would swap places now
Just for you to feel the rain one day on your skin
To take one glance at a world that should have been yours.
You were too young to ever exist in the eyes of others
But in ours you still grow each day
A shadow in my soul that will ensure you live and breathe for as long as I, your father.
